Smart Storage Solutions for Compact Bathrooms and Kitchens

Kitchen cabinets with refrigerator and oven with stove and microwave

As you may know, if you saw my post on how to Elevate your home’s air quality, we’ve moved into a new home (for us), and while this is both exciting & fun, it is also not without its drawbacks. As you settle into your new home, you may be looking at it and comparing its features with those that you may have had in a previous home. “Hi, it’s me.” I’m the one comparing. And while I love the new floor plan and layout (in general), there are some things that don’t live up to our last house.

Top of the list is dealing with limited cabinet and drawer space in both the main bathroom and the kitchen, which can be quite a challenge. If this is a challenge for you, then fear not! I’ve gathered some practical tips to help you (AND ME!) make the most out of every nook and cranny without sacrificing style or functionality.

Go Vertical: When floor space is at a premium, think up! Install shelves or floating racks above your countertops or sinks to create extra storage space. Use them to display decorative items in the bathroom or store cooking essentials in the kitchen. By utilizing vertical wall space, you’ll free up valuable counter space and keep everything within arm’s reach.

Maximize Under Counter Space: Don’t neglect the area beneath your counters. Invest in pull-out drawers or sliding shelves to make the most of this often-overlooked storage space. Organize items with stackable bins or baskets to keep everything tidy and accessible. It’s a game-changer for keeping clutter at bay and maintaining a tidy space.

AFTER!! YAY!

Make Use of Pantry or Closet: If you’re lucky enough to have a pantry or closet, make it work for you. Install shelving systems or modular units to maximize vertical storage. Consider using baskets or bins for a less costly option.

Labeled containers help to keep everything organized and easy to find.

Don’t forget to take advantage of door-mounted organizers or hooks for added storage options.

Install shelving units or cabinets to create additional storage for towels, toiletries, or decorative accents.

Look for slimline designs to keep the area feeling spacious while providing plenty of storage options.

Or how about the ubiquitous Over-the-Toilet Storage? Use it in the bathroom; don’t overlook the space above your toilet.

You can also use wall-mounted organizers or hooks for towels or robes to free up space elsewhere.

Bring in Rolling Carts: Introduce portable storage solutions like rolling carts to add extra storage in both your kitchen and bathroom.

Opt for designs with multiple tiers or cabinets or space for baskets to accommodate various items.

These versatile units can be easily moved around to suit your needs, making them perfect for organizing and food prep!

With these clever storage solutions, you can maximize space and keep your bathroom and kitchen clutter-free, even with limited cabinets and drawers. Whether you’re going vertical, making the most of under-counter space, or bringing in portable storage options, there are plenty of ways to make your small space work for you.
